Klean Kanteen made a huge splash at the Summer 2011 Outdoor Retailer (OR) tradeshow in Salt Lake City. The bi-annual event showcases leading brands and companies in the outdoor market, exhibiting their newest products and meeting with others in the industry. The show is also a very festive, social atmosphere, featuring nightly "happy hours" in many of the booths.
We were happy to work with Patagonia and Osprey to introduce "plastic-free" happy hours. Each company sold a special edition Kanteen Steel Pint, with proceeds benefiting the Buffalo Field Campaign. The happy hours were a huge success, with extremely long lines, steel pints selling out quickly, and a lot of great industry buzz and excitement from one of the biggest crowds in OR history. The momentum has continued at each subsequent OR tradeshow since 2011, with our steel pints and other reusables continuing to displace single-use, helping shift the paradigm in the outdoor industry.
You may also be familiar with the steel pint from our events and music festival sponsorshops, like Pickathon, FloydFest or Festy. Another in Klean Kanteen's long line of solutions to single-use plastic, the 16oz Kanteen Steel Pint is durable, reusable, and dishwasher safe. Won't break like glass pints. Won't fill the garbage can or landfill like the ubiquitous red plastic cup.
The 2011 steel pint campaign was part of Outdoor Retailer's Green Steps Program, a concept that calls out companies adopting green practices in their product, policies and business tactics in and around the outdoor industry.
We were proud to show the outdoor industry that there are viable alternatives to single-use plastic. Part of our ongoing crusade to persuade individuals, organizations and global brands that they can help us lead the way with more sustainable solutions. So here's to change, one bottle and steel pint at a time!
